The Tobacco Free Partnership of Broward County is organizing its first Tobacco Free Art Exhibit.  Its purpose is to promote tobacco free beaches and parks in Broward County.

The artwork will be produced by the youth of Broward County, ages 5 – 18.   School age children of Broward County have until October 31, 2015 to submit their entry, which will be voted on during the month of November to determine which pieces will be exhibited.  Once voting has been completed, those deemed eligible will be invited to display their artwork as part of the Tobacco Free Art Exhibit.  Participation guidelines and voting rules are spelled out at the Web site of the  Tobacco Free Art Exhibit   http://tobaccofreeartexhibit.org

The expected number of art pieces to be displayed is approximately 100.   The Tobacco Free Art Exhibit will be exhibiting on the sixth floor of the Broward County Main Library, January 4, 2016 through February 26, 2016 and in the main lobby of the Broward County Government Center, January 5, 2016 through January 28, 2016.

“The Broward County Main Library is proud to be joining with the Tobacco Free Partnership of Broward County (TFP) to present the Tobacco Free Art Exhibit in our Gallery Six for the months of January and February 2016,” said Lisa Manners, Manager, Broward County Main Library.   “We look forward to seeing what our Broward County students create in their
original photos and paintings that endorse a healthy smoke-free community.”

“QuitDoc Foundation is delighted to partner on this inaugural event,” said Dr. Barry Hummel, a pediatrician and co-founder of the non-profit organization based in Coral Springs.  “Our core mission is to reduce youth access and exposure to tobacco in Florida, so this project is a
perfect fit for us.  This art show will allow youth that are impacted  by secondhand smoke where they live and play to lend their voices to  the movement to create smoke-free parks and beaches,” added Dr. Hummel.

The QuitDoc Research and Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, is acting as the fiscal agent for the event.  Donations will go towards prizes to recognize the students who participate in the art exhibit.
