Senior Volunteers Saluted with exhibit in Town Center Art Gallery

The spirit of giving and a zest for life are reflected in the eyes of a special group of seniors photographed by local artist Hank Henley. The Fort Lauderdale-based photographer was commissioned by Covenant Village of Florida, a senior living community, to take portraits of 70 resident volunteers as a way to thank them for sharing their time and talent with others. The collection, entitled “We Salute Our Stars” will be on display in the Town Center Art Gallery, 9215 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation, July 1 through Aug. 31.

The exhibit is an added show of appreciation for resident volunteers who last year logged more than 1,700 volunteer hours. “We honor our residents every year with a Volunteer Appreciation Brunch,” said Resident Life Director Shauna Monahan. “This year, we also wanted to acknowledge them in front of the community.”

The photo shoot was memorable for residents and for Henley, who has begun to focus on photographing senior adults, and says it’s a gratifying niche to work in. “It’s rewarding when you capture the spirit in their eyes,” he said.

The free exhibit is open to the public. For information, call 877-670-0889.
