FCA holds third annual golf and tennis classic

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) staged its Third Annual Gold Coast FCA Celebrity Golf and Tennis Classic on Nov. 2, at the beautiful Parkland Golf and Country Club.

The tournament had more than 25 celebrities and 100-plus golfers teeing off for the FCA Mission, hosted by a legendary collegiate football coach, FAU’s Howard Schnellenberger, for the third straight event. It also included other local and national sports legends, athletes and coaches, led by former Miami Dolphin greats  John Offerdahl and OJ McDuffie; former New York Giant quarterback Danny Kanell; as well as baseball players like former New York Yankees Jim Leyritz and Stan Bahnsen, and Mr. Marlin, Jeff Conine,  plus scores of others from the field of sports.

“We created this event as an outlet to create awareness of the sports Life outreach and to raise funds to support programs and activities associated with the local Gold Coast FCA chapter headquartered on the campus of FAU in Boca Raton,” said Gold Coast FCA Area Director James Pendleton.

The FCA Golf and Tennis Classic keynote luncheon address was given by FAU head basketball coach Mike Jarvis, who shared his testimony and walk with the Lord and his new challenge from God to minister and coach the young men at Florida Atlantic University. Kristine Webb, Palm Beach Atlantic coach and President of the on-campus FCA, also spoke to the golfers and shared her growth with the Lord and work with FCA over the years.

The highlight of this year’s event was an FCA first,  a hole-in-one by Bruce Batchelder, one of the newest Gold Coast FCA Board members, on Parkland’s #11 hole, playing with captain, Conine.
