The textbooks and multimedia presentations school students are exposed to are full of this kind of absurdity. Yet, it is arrogantly presented as a “scientific fact” that should be accepted without question. Paul warns about this very thing, when he says in Romans 1:21-22, “…because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools.” Does it matter to you that most young people in our educational institutions are taught wrong information, or that facts about the grave problems evolution faces with the origin of life are routinely censored?

There is an idiom that says, “God is in the details,” and this no truer than when it comes to the intricacies of biological systems. It is “in the details” of life where the weaknesses of evolutionary explanations fail completely. According creationist Dr. Jerry Bergman, there are “millions of enormously intricate nanomachines that need to be present in order for life to exist on earth.” Attempting to explain these biochemical “machines” from an evolutionary paradigm are so insurmountable that doing so requires either stubborn ignorance or willful closed mindedness to the scientific facts.

A nanomachine is a complex microscopic molecule operating in a living system that has the ability to do work. These molecules have been revealed in recent decades with the aid of the electron microscope, which has a thousand times the resolution of the best optical microscopes. The discovery of this invisible “micro-world” has revolutionized our understanding of how life began and has given us far more details on how these living systems work. Such new discoveries make it clear that life is an extraordinary masterpiece of intricate, overlapping mechanisms that function perfectly together—as if they were built for each other! In other words, these miniature machines scream Design, and completely defy any naturalistic explanation. Only a Great Intelligence or Master Designer can account for them. Indeed, the light of the world, Jesus Christ, reveals himself through these amazing living systems. He programmed biological life so that we can see his hand (and mind) in creation. As John 1:4 says, “In Him was the life, and the life was the light of man.”

The famous ATP-ADP molecular motor, which students study in a typical biology class, ranks right after DNA in importance for life. It is a great example of a nanomachine or a microscopic molecular complex that is designed to accomplish a designated task. All living organisms posses them and use them to produce energy. The ATP-ADP system is the tiniest nanomachine in the world. In order to sustain life these micro-motors have to operate at 100 percent efficiency, which is equal to a machine using all of its electrical energy to do work without any of it going to waste! Such efficiency has no man-made equivalent. Automobiles are only about 21 percent efficient, with electric power plants a bit more at 30 percent. The ATP-ADP motor works in every plant and animal cell, where it lies on the mitochondrial membrane and uses small amounts of electricity to spin at 10,000 revolutions per minute. Every revolution produces three ATP molecules, each one having energy locked up inside. Under normal conditions the amount of ATP a human body produces daily is calculated at 2 x 10²⁶ molecules, with a mass 160 kg or 352 pounds. These molecules are never destroyed but recycled 2,000 to 3,000 times daily. If an automobile engine requires detailed plans, precise measurements and proper components—i.e., an intelligent design—to operate successfully, then it is only logical that the inhumanly efficient, life-sustaining ATP-ADP molecular machine needs superior forethought and intelligence to exist. As we all know, car engines have their shortcomings, but these nanomachines are true marvels that reflect a perfect, all-powerful Creator. The honest person will join the psalmist in saying, “Bless the Lord, all His works, in all places of His dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!” (Psalm 103:22).

So how do evolutionists explain the origin of the magnificent ATP-ADP motor, when this machine had to appear fully formed and operational in order to produce the energy required to keep the first life going? And even if one of these molecular machines could evolve itself into existence, could such an undirected, unintelligent process account for the other million nanomachines needed and bring them together in a perfect operating system required for the simplest life to exist?

Former Harvard evolutionary paleontologist Steven J. Gould, an atheist and renowned author who was lauded in his time by evolutionists, once made this revealing statement, “We are glorious accidents of an unpredictable process with no drive to complexity, not the expected results of evolutionary principles that yearn to produce a creature capable of understanding the mode of its own necessary construction.”

He believed that biological evolution is a mysterious, unpredictable process and that life was a one-time fluke, which, as mentioned above, is statistically impossible even by a glorious accident. The irrational faith that this nonetheless happened ignores another insurmountable mountain that evolution has to climb. It is the DNA code, which has the specific purpose of programming life. All biological systems are defined and created through DNA. To accomplish this task it uses a “language” written in biological code. Where did this coded language come from, and who wrote it for every living creature? According to Dr. Donald Johnson, who has earned Ph.D.s in both Computer Science and Information Science, this is another question that evolution needs to address. As one who programs software for computers in order to accomplish specific tasks, he understands the role intelligence plays in his relatively simple work and asks, “How did nature write the code—the program—to sustain life?” The answer lies in the Intelligence of a Grand Designer who is evolutionist’s worst enemy. We know him as a Creator and Savior.
